Professor Yi Guan, Lead Scientist of the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health (D²4H), received the 2021 John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award conferred by the Gairdner Foundation for his significant contributions to understanding the origins and options for control of newly emerging infectious disease outbreaks in Asia.
The John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award recognises outstanding researchers who have used rational, scientifically based research that impacts global health and health inequity worldwide. Professor Guan is one of the first laureates of this prestigious global award at Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong (HKU).
Professor Guan is currently leading one of the key programmes at D²4H for developing AI-driven metagenomic platform to identify emerging pathogens that will help improve disease surveillance and control.
