The opening ceremony of the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health (D²4H) was held on 24 February 2021. The ceremony, officiated by the Chief Scientific Officer and Lead Scientists of the D²4H, was graced by the presence of representatives from HKU Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine (HKUMed), Estates Office of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and HKU Innovation Holdings Limited. At the ceremony, Professor Gabriel M. Leung, Chief Scientific Officer of the D²4H, gave his opening remarks and reiterated the vision, mission and core values of the Company.
The D²4H was initially established in November 2020 as a company incorporated by HKU with the aim to gather and curate massive, unique data resources and develop deep, frontier analytics that will protect global public health and improve individual healthcare through precision medicine. The D²4H undertakes five key programmes with specific foci in global health protection.
