Professor Benjamin Cowling, Lead Scientist of the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health (D²4H), was honoured with Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
MBE is a special honour to recognise the awardees’ outstanding achievement or service to the community. Honours recipients are announced twice a year, once in the New Year’s Honours List, and once on The Queen’s official birthday.
As the Co-Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the School of Public Health (SPH) of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), Professor Cowling has worked tirelessly on infectious diseases and the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, Professor Cowling is currently leading one of the key programmes at D²4H for developing new methodology for predicting seasonal influenza epidemics around the world. His efforts have had significant impact on science and public health in both Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, and also globally.
We at D²4H would extend our sincerest congratulations to Professor Cowling for his achievement.
